Overview:
Bad Habits is a project based on observing bad living conditions in life and helping users make changes. This was my school project during graduate school and consisted of a group research component and an individual design component. In my design, the problem I chose is that in the busy modern life, users desire to exercise for fitness but do not have enough regular time. For this reason, I designed "Fitness Drops" in the hope that healthy habits can be integrated into the busy lives of my target audience like drops of water.
Challenge
Changing users' behavioural patterns and habits is very difficult, and the large training plans in traditional fitness apps are a turn-off. Fitness is demanding in terms of space and time, and people often give up or neglect fitness due to lack of time. Each user has different needs and preferences, and the same programme may not work for everyone. The results of fitness cannot be reflected in a short period of time, the user is likely to have a sense of fear, and then resistance to fitness, halfway to give up.
Solution
Through the simple image of the interface design, the concept of water and fitness is associated, conveying the core design concept of "fitness is like water, no matter how big or small, the emphasis is on accumulation".
Based on the schedule and available time uploaded by the user, it helps the user to plan his/her fitness programme. Provide a variety of short and efficient exercise options to help users fragment their fitness. Through the hourglass design, it gives users the positive psychological hint that "exercise efforts will accumulate” and provides progress tracking and detailed feedback to encourage users to accumulate exercise time.
Result
About ninety percent of the potential users in the user group I tested indicated that the simple and novel way of planning helped them overcome their trepidation. The majority of potential users felt that the idea of fragmented fitness helped them develop new, healthier habits.
Tutor liked the direction of the application, and the features and ideas for planning exercise creation. The task analysis and thread flow documentation was clear and thorough.
